GST Gateway: GenSciTech Web Ring

Gender, Science and Technology Web Ring
(GenSciTech)

The GenSciTech Web Ring links up sites from around the world which address key issues in gender, science and technology for sustainable development. These includes issues of women's participation and contributions to formal science education, research and practice, as well as the science and technology that women and men around the world practice everyday.

Links in this web ring offer information, resources, policies and best practices in S&T capacity-building for national development with both women and men.

Issues addressed include: women's participation in science education and research; food security; environmental management; biotechnology; biodiversity and local knowledge systems; intellectual property rights; energy, and much more.

A web ring control panel (shown below) is located on the home page of every organization in the GenSciTech Web Ring. Use these control panels to navigate from one page in the ring to another. You can move through web ring pages sequentially, or view lists of pages using the 'Next Five', 'Previous Five', or 'Index' buttons.

Criteria for Joining the GenSciTech Sustainability Web Ring
Before submitting your site ask yourself if your site fulfills the following criteria:
  1. It must explicitly deal with the differential contributions of women and/or men in the development, research and implementation of formal or non-formal science and technology for development.
  2. It must contain substantive content about participation, policies, resources or best practices which monitor the participation of women and men in S&T activities; suggest programmes or policies to increase women's participation in aspects of S&T; or provide resources for education, research or action.

PLEASE NOTE: the following types of sites will not be admitted:
  • personal home pages
  • commercial sites (e.g. product advertisements and sales (including book advertisements), consultants, publishers)
If your site does not meet our criteria, we suggest visiting the RingSurf Directory to locate a more appropriate webring.

If you feel your site satisfies our criteria, take the following steps:
  1. Submit your site for consideration using the submission form.
  2. Once the server receives and processes your request, you will be sent an e-mail with a unique site ID number for your site, HTML code and more instructions. Don't lose this number, it is very important!
  3. Your site will be reviewed and you will be notified if your site is accepted or not.
  4. After you are notified (and accepted), the web ring control panel must be inserted on your homepage.
  5. You (may/will) have two different logos to choose from (shown below), and you will be given HTML code for both of them. The code will arrive in the same email as your site ID, or you can copy it below. Choose either the vertically- or horizontally- oriented control panel and use the corresponding HTML code. Save the image you want and put it in the same directory as the file into which you have copied the HTML code.
  6. In each of the lines where it says: "_site_id_" put the id number that you were e-mailed when you joined the queue.
  7. Once you have added the HTML code to your page look at it in your browser to make sure everything is functioning properly.
  8. When the control panel is inserted, send an e-mail to the Ring Manager telling her that you are ready to be added to the ring.
  9. If you need help with any of these steps please email the Ring Manager for assistance.
